For those of you who follow my monthly lifestyle updates, I’ll be honest, this past month has been a bit of a struggle.
As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been dealing with a B12 deficiency that hit me quite hard, particularly impacting my energy. For someone who has walked five miles a day for ages, suddenly struggling to manage even a couple of miles has been what I hope is a temporary reality. Thankfully, things are turning around. My energy levels are finally improving, and I’m back to covering at least a few miles each day.
The recent heatwave hasn’t made things any easier. To cope with the temperature, I’ve had to adapt my routine by walking much later in the evening when things cool down. I also shifted my route to local laps closer to the house, that way, if my energy suddenly dips, I’m never too far from home.
On the nutrition front, I’ve stuck with my daily calorie tracking and am gradually shifting the remaining holiday weight. Managing your weight is rarely easy. I’ll admit there have been a few days where I exceeded my 1,900-calorie target. However, keeping that awareness is what matters as all food is logged. The reality is that even on a “bad” day, say, hitting 2,400 calories, I am still running a deficit compared to what it takes to maintain my weight. It’s a good reminder that the “old me” was likely consuming far more than that calories wise on a regular basis without realising it (and without exercise).
The main reason the holiday weight is coming off a bit slower right now is simply the temporary reduction in my daily walking. As my energy continues to return and the summer heat begins to break, I’m looking forward to stepping up my walking pace and getting fully back into my stride.
Thank you all for the continued support, here’s to a stronger month ahead!
