Last month I wrote about the Google Fit app that I use. I have found the points awarded for walking at pace motivational. Those of you who follow these health and fitness updates will know I’ve struggled with some of my walks over the summer. I do finally feel that I am back on track. Having upped my B12 daily vitamin intake to 250mg, I am regularly achieving my daily three-mile walking goal with new energy. I have continued to count my calories and I am pleased with my current progress as I start closing in on my second year following this regime. This year I am on track for completing around 1,050 exercise miles, which will be a pleasing result once achieved.

The one difficulty now after the summer heat is the dark evenings as they draw in, making safety out walking a consideration once again. I miss wearing headphones but it does allow me to be aware of my surroundings.

After pretty much maintaining my weight across the year, I’m currently losing a few pounds again following a small weight increase in early summer.

With weight loss and time passing, you become accustomed to your new clothes sizes and it is easy to forget the progress made, with your reduced size becoming the new norm. When you do put a little on after a holiday, it’s easy to think you’ve got bigger again when the reality is that you are still hugely lighter. The challenge is to accept that weight will fluctuate and perhaps acknowledge acceptable ranges that you can fall within. I do notice patterns and will undoubtedly lose weight again after the summer before a small increase over Christmas.

Keeping track of the bigger picture is ultimately what keeps the motivation alive through the seasonal shifts. As long as the habits remain consistent and the overall trajectory points in the right direction, those minor weight fluctuations are just part of the journey rather than a setback.
