A subtitled South Korean dark comedy film that released in its home country in 2025. Available from this Friday the 23rd Jan in the UK by MUBI. I viewed a few days early as a Cineworld Unlimited see it first film preview, which drew quite a large audience.

A paper factory worker, after 25 years, is dismissed and decides to eliminate his main competition to secure another job. However, his eliminations and murders are messy and poorly planned which leads to many amusing moments.
While amusing and comedic, it also delves into thriller territory. Surprisingly, it’s quick-paced even at 2 hours 14 minutes. There are plenty of amusing moments in what can be described as art house.

Director Park Chan-Wook’s vision beautifully captures the sound and cinematography even with subtitles. The music definitely enhancing the experience. Many reviews consider it his masterpiece. The cast includes Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin and Park Hee-soon. I also understand it’s been nominated for an Academy Award.
It’s an engrossing film and at times it reminded me of Netflix show “Black Mirror”, especially in its conclusion.
This is another film I usually wouldn’t choose to see but I’m glad that I did.
