I do like a black comedy and this would normally be right up my street. Though, to be fair, this was more my wife’s pick than mine.
Starring Glen Powell, who recently appeared in The Running Man, the film was released on 13th March and we caught it as an advance screening for Unlimited members at Cineworld.
The film opens briskly, quickly setting the scene before settling into a slower pace. Becket Redfellow recounts his murderous pursuit of the inheritance denied to him at birth, after his wealthy family disowned his mother. Working his way through various relatives, eliminating each obstacle standing between him and the fortune he believes is rightfully his.

The humour is dark but understated. It’s more lightly amusing than laugh out loud. The storytelling is gentle despite the subject matter, building towards an ending that feels slightly more disappointing than you might expect. It’s not a bad film, just a bit average and not must see.
Supporting performances come from Margaret Qualley as Julia, Becket’s former school friend, and Jessica Henwick as his girlfriend, Ruth. A string of supporting players pop up as the soon to be deceased relatives. Once a family member is targeted, the film wastes no time in dispatching them and keeps the narrative moving.
If choosing between cinema or streaming this at home, I’d lean towards the latter and wait for its TV debut. It’s fine, perfectly watchable, just not amazing. My wife came away disappointed by the ending and I can’t say I was far off. A solid “meh”.
