While I love my Apple Watch and I use it daily for monitoring activity, it doesn’t help me judge workout intensity. To fill this gap, I downloaded the Google Fit app and have found it genuinely useful.

Heart Points System: While both apps track steps, distance, and move minutes, Google Fit uniquely awards points based on exercise intensity. A gentle, relaxed walk won’t register, but a brisk walk earns one point per minute for increased heart activity, and two points for higher-intensity movement.

Goals & Tracking: The weekly target is 150 points, though I normally double that. The app also features well-laid-out data dashboards, including maps of your latest walks, heart metrics, and sleep data.

Widgets: A handy home screen widget lets you check your earned points at a glance throughout the day.

Overall, the points system is a fantastic way to gauge workout intensity alongside my Apple Watch data. I’ve found this extra data more useful than I expected. A handy additional tool to use.
