“What did you think? We thought it was a decent enough start overall. The opening political sketch felt like the wrong choice and may have turned some viewers off early, but the titles were strong and Tina Fey was a smart pick to launch the show. We wanted to give it a try and didn’t expect to enjoy it, but it wasn’t too bad.
There were some genuinely good sketches and live moments, although the Paddington idea felt like a missed opportunity.
It’s clear the show needs to feel British, but in this first series it should still lean into its SNL roots. Bringing in well-known SNL hosts/performers throughout the run would help anchor it and build confidence in the format and not just for the first episode.
A great move having Tina Fey involved, just a shame she’s not behind the scenes as a producer across the whole first series, which would also add consistency and help shape the tone while the show finds its feet.”
