This visit to Vieta was a birthday treat courtesy of my sister. While I had eaten here last year, it was her first experience. Here are our thoughts from what turned out to be a very enjoyable evening.

The restaurant offers both a main menu and a three-course set menu, priced at £25, which represents good value for money. The set menu provides a varied selection of starters and mains, including burgers, steaks and a few additional options, along with a small selection of desserts.

Although the choice isn’t huge, there is still a good range of dishes available and we both opted for the set menu. For starters we both chose the black pudding Scotch egg, followed by baked Alaska for dessert. For the main course I had the sirloin steak with chunky chips and peppercorn sauce (generous serving), along with a side of onion rings. My sister opted for the venison burger, also with onion rings.

The food arrived within a reasonable time and the overall quality was good. The Scotch egg starter in particular was excellent. I also really enjoyed the steak, which felt like very good value for the price. My sister struggled a little with the venison burger and felt it wasn’t quite to her taste. The only dish I personally struggled with slightly was the dessert, although in fairness it’s not something I would normally choose as I tend to prefer savoury options.

Interestingly, when we first arrived there were around five other tables dining and a good atmosphere. However, as the evening progressed and we were eating from 7pm to 9.30pm, the restaurant quietened down after 8.30pm and we eventually became the only table. This did make the atmosphere feel a little different, although we still had a pleasant time and there was music playing in the background. Strange more tables also did not book later as a lovely restaurant, though we did dine mid-week in a Wednesday.

Service throughout the evening was excellent. The lady who served us was very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. There were no issues at all with either the service or the food.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and good value for money. We finished the evening with teas and coffees before heading home.

Thanks to my sister Maureen for a lovely evening catching up.
