⭐️⭐️⭐️✨3.5

Although this film is likely ideally viewed in 3D or on an iMax screen, I watched “Mercy” on a standard 2D screen. The films presentation certainly suggests it would enhance the experience if viewed in 3D, due to usage of overlapping AI looking generated windows, segments and video throughout the film. Unfortunately 2D screenings are only available at my local cinema, so I might see it again if they show the 3D version in future.

This fast-paced action film is enjoyable and intelligent for its genre, featuring a futuristic plot with some far-fetched elements. Set in near-future LA, it follows detective Chris Raven (Chris Pratt) accused of murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence before an AI judge he helped create delivers a verdict. Throughout the trial, the judge assesses the likelihood of his guilt. A closing verdict of 92% or higher results in the death penalty and instant death.

Chris works with the AI called Judge Maddox (Rebecca Ferguson) to investigate the charges and attempt to prove his innocence.

No doubt quite high budget and an interesting concept. Chris Pratt has promoted the film and I did watch his appearance on Graham Norton. Hence my interest in seeing this film.

My wife and I enjoyed the film. As an Amazon MGM film, it is expected to stream relatively quickly on Amazon Prime. If that’s true, I will definitely watch it again to take in some of the plot points that I may have missed.

“The second season is nearly done, and somehow I’ve only just discovered this show. I’m about to start the series one finale and honestly, what a great watch it’s been. It feels like 24 meets Lost, with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. I’m hoping it just keeps getting better.“
