As a collector of modern magic memorabilia, attending a show or convention is the best way to acquire some new signed items.

Last weekend, while attending the IBM convention in Hinkley, I managed to acquire a few new signed items for my collection. Some of these were also obtained at the “Magic & Mischief” show featuring Ryland and Thea Petty on Saturday evening.

All items are in the gallery below to view with a little supporting write up.

Kane & Abel

At the end of their fantastic lecture, I had the opportunity to quickly say hello and purchase the lecture notes. The presentation of these notes was fitting for IBM, with a design that mimicked the old feel of the IBM magazine. They were signed by both Kane & Abel. An additional highlight was that “Magic Seats” is referenced on the outer back page.

Magic & Mischief

I managed to get a couple of signed items. First, I bought a pre-signed poster to add to my show poster collection. Next, I got a mug that both Ryland and Thea signed in person.

Matricks Illusion

Matricks (Alex) always produces a wide range of merchandise. This latest cap, featuring a rabbit and hat, was signed by both Alex and Kelsie at their IBM dealers’ stand.

The Great Lorenzo

Lawrence, who always attends IBM picnics and conventions, kindly remembered to bring some pictures and sign them for me. I also had the opportunity to view his history book with lots of pictures and memories from his career.

Signed Playing Cards

I did well with the playing cards over the weekend. Michael Carr, Danny Lee Grew, and Kazia Cannon, who all performed in the stage magic competition, all signed cards to me.

Then at the “Magic & Mischief” show that same weekend, I was able to chat with Jess Howard and Nia Evans, who both signed cards as well.

A big thanks to all the artists who signed items for my collection. Thank you all.

I also have quite a few shows coming up, so plenty more opportunities to get more items soon.
