The version reviewed is compatible with iPhone 15/16 or Android devices with a USB-C plug, and includes two ultra-mini microphones.
As a blogger creating content for this website, I’m considering enhancing some content with additional supporting videos. I still need to decide how I want to implement this and for what exact purpose. Regardless, I definitely need a microphone, and maybe even a gimbal.
In the past, I’ve created some vlogs, but due to using an iPhone, I’ve been restricted to recording inside my office, which has limited possibilities. Using a microphone would broaden these possibilities, as mics offer clearer voice pickup and the ability to reduce or eliminate background noise using AI noise cancellation.
I purchased this Boya product from Amazon, and the delivery was quick. I paid £33.59 when the price was reduced, but it has since increased to £45.99. The compact packaging included the charging case, two microphones, and a USB-C adapter. The box also contained a USB-C lead and instructions.

The first step was to charge the unit. Once it was fully charged, I plugged in the small and compact receiver into my iPhone. Unlike some bulky competitors, this receiver is not awkward and allows me to easily hold my phone while using it. I anticipate no issues with attaching a gimbal (hopefully).
Once the receiver is plugged in, a subtle blue light flashes until it’s connected to a microphone. This plug-and-play system is as simple as taking a microphone out of its charging case. As long as the microphone is charged, the blue light will flash, and the receiver will display a constant green light to indicate a successful connection. It’s very easy to use with minimal fuss.
The charging case has a battery life of up to 30 hours, and the mics have a life of up to 6 hours between charges. The case is similar in size to Apple AirPods cases. The construction is pretty good.
The mic should be clipped to your clothes, ideally near your neckline. It includes a wind screen, so you’re ready to record as soon as your phone is ready. The charging case houses two mics, so you can have a spare if the mic in use needs to be swapped out or if you have a guest who also needs a mic.
In my opinion, the system is very easy to use and includes noise reduction settings. It also has some gimmicks with voice changing. When I experimented with the mics indoors in a quiet room with a fan on, I didn’t notice a significant difference in the sound quality of my voice, whether recorded with or without a mic at close range. However, the system really came into its own with noise reduction, effectively reducing the background fan noise. That was impressive. I also tried recording with music in the background, and while there were still some noises present when recorded without the mic, the noise reduction made a remarkable difference, with a noticeable improvement in background noise reduction. There are also three noise reduction settings available.
The next test was outdoors, where potential wind and other noises were present. Despite these challenges, the microphone performed quite well in this environment. It offers three levels of noise reduction, ranging from weak to strong. Each press of the noise reduction (NR) button adjusts the range of settings. Certainly the mic eliminates wind noise well and when testing with traffic, while the noise is still there, the strength in the voice remains strong and focal.
I also experimented with the receiver attached to my Mac, and it worked seamlessly – just plug and play again.
One learning though is in the event you intend to record sound from your phone, do remove the adapter even if you are not wearing the mics. Otherwise the captures video is soundless.
This set of mics could be a cheap solution for a newbie wanting to record audio for vlogs or podcasts, especially if you’re using an Android or iPhone with USB-C. It’s likely classed as budget and entry-level, but I can’t directly compare it to other systems since this is my first set of mics.
As I continue experimenting and recording real data instead of just tests, I’ll provide an update and share my thoughts.
