In my opinion, “Harvester” restaurants can be a little bit hit and miss. Years ago, my sister and family would get quite excited about the prospect of visiting a Harvester restaurant. Rolls, salad bowl, and the main menu. In more recent times, I have noticed a dip in food quality offerings and recall one really poor breakfast offering at the Rugby branch.

We don’t visit the “Harvester” as much as we used to, but my daughter does love it. I normally go for a burger as a main course and then I would have a starter or a dessert as well. Sometimes I would order a selection of meats.

They are quite known for offers, and you can normally eat at a reasonable price. On our recent visit to The Harvester Beacon Quay branch in Torquay, we received a warm welcome and were guided to our table. The usual check, “Have you visited a Harvester before?” was asked. A reference to their salad cart offering. Our server was friendly, and food offerings were reasonable in terms of delivery speed. Probably about 20 minutes to gain mains after ordering.

Food quality was fairly good, and my Southern BBQ Crunch burger and chips were good. However, the chips and burger do look small on the plate. It could have done with a side salad or perhaps a small coleslaw portion. My wife and daughter ordered the BBQ chicken stack. The chicken breast was small and perhaps a little dry. The cornbread was decent, though the chicken fries were also dry but looked good.

Dessert-wise, I ordered a favourite of mine, which was the lemon blizzard sundae. It was quite big, and I ended up sharing it with my wife. My daughter then had the apple crumble sundae. The sundae was warm, though perhaps not enough crumble! The food was pretty decent though and we had no complaints.

We had a 25% off voucher, and the server explained that if we went for the Chicken Tuesday offer, we would save more money. The result was that all our mains were only £8 each, which is much cheaper than the normal prices which would have been around £17 per main. For unlimited soft drinks, salad cart, three mains and two desserts, it came to £51. Not bad value.

Overall, I enjoyed our visit and the service was good. Based on this experience, I would go back. The Harvester Beacon Quay branch in Torquay that we visited was generally clean and quite spacious.

My quick takes…

“The second season is nearly done, and somehow I’ve only just discovered this show. I’m about to start the series one finale and honestly, what a great watch it’s been. It feels like 24 meets Lost, with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. I’m hoping it just keeps getting better.“
