It is sometime since I last ate at a Pizza Express restaurant. This was a larger branch geared to cater for customers prior to concerts at Resorts World in Birmingham. Positioned in the Resorts World shopping centre in the lower area near the lake.

We arrived quite early to the venue to allow time to eat prior to a gig and we were able to get a booking as a walk in. Booking is probably normally recommended and we got asked if we had booked. However, plenty of seating was available on this occasion and the decor was pleasant and clean. Lots of staff were at hand to cook and serve and an open planned kitchen allowed you to view your food preparation.

The menu was mainly starters, pizza and a very small pasta selection. We were expecting more than about 4 pasta dishes but focus appears to be pizza. Fair enough as the clue is in the name. However, lots of choice on the menu.

Food quality was good and we all had garlic bread with mozzarella for starters. Though not a particularly large starter portion for the price, mains ordered were a decent size and our choices consisted of pizza and pasta.

Food quality was good. For what you get, I thought the experience was slightly on the expensive side. However, you are at what is basically the Birmingham NEC so rent cannot be cheap. Service was polite with well trained staff. My “La Reine” pizza was also pretty good and was cooked well.

In the past, I have visited this chain and had mixed results. This was a good experience generally and I would go again. Recommended.

“The second season is nearly done, and somehow I’ve only just discovered this show. I’m about to start the series one finale and honestly, what a great watch it’s been. It feels like 24 meets Lost, with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. I’m hoping it just keeps getting better.“
