I stream most of my music from Apple Music using an iPhone. I also use Alexa speakers when working in my office. The one thing I have been missing is a small, portable speaker. A small device that could be handy to use on holiday or even in the bathroom when running off a rechargeable battery. I required a bluetooth device and waterproof with good sound.

I noted that Amazon had an offer on an Anker manufactured speaker called “Soundcore 3,” which had many excellent reviews online. The Anker name certainly got my attention as they do produce excellent products, and I have used them in the past for sockets, cables, and phone cases. At the time of purchase, the speaker was also discounted by £20 from £55 to £35. Available in black, red, blue, and silver choices, I opted for the black which is the cheapest for this limited deal. The other colours are about £5 more at £40.

The packaging was decent and on opening the box, you are greeted with the speaker in a plastic wrap, a USB charging cable and a cord to attach to the speaker along with an instruction guide. The build quality is noticeably good and the speaker casing appears to be easy to clean. The unit has the USB charging connection then on top a power on, play/pause and sound up and down buttons.

The speaker was very easy to setup and always connects quickly without issue to my iphone. I downloaded the official app that helps with speaker settings and connecting my phone via Bluetooth. I was up and running in minutes. I also easily connected my wife’s phone directly without installing the app on her phone. When testing, both of us using our phones were easily able to connect and switch user.

The Soundcore app allows you to join multiple Anker/Soundcore devices, including earphones, speakers, and more that you can then manage. You can set up an account, which I did, and then it assigns your warranty and appears to support claims if ever needed. Electronic guides and help pages are also included and a section with white noise and relaxing sounds is also included.

Settings-wise, within the app, you have equaliser options, and you can also adjust whether lights and sounds activate on the unit when the device is turned on (when connected via Bluetooth). I charged the unit on arrival before use, and it is claimed to last an impressive 24 hours between charges. I will see how I get on.

The sound quality and bass are excellent. I was really impressed with the output; it did not sound tinny and was rather powerful. So while I would not class myself as an audiophile, I would say the quality of the speaker is noticeable. I am not disappointed at all and very pleased with this purchase as it appears that the Amazon reviews were right.

Overall, I am very impressed, particularly as the reduced price made it quite the bargain. An ideal solution for anyone wanting a mobile speaker that you can take anywhere with you.
