A shorter update this month as I have less news to share, but I am pleased to have completed another month of dieting and exercise. As I start my sixth month attempting to get fitter and eat more healthily, I have been thinking a lot more about how I will maintain the weight loss. Exercise will likely be very important as I start to think about measures that I need to put in place to prevent weight gain in future. Currently, I have been weighing myself about every four to six weeks and I will likely need to increase that frequency to better monitor and avoid any gains in future.
The highlight of the month was my mid-May weigh-in. I discovered that I had lost another 9lb. I have roughly 1.5 stone left to lose, which will take me to a 5 stone weight loss – a significant achievement I’m looking forward to reaching.
I’ve continued walking 3 miles a day (except Fridays) and then longer walks at the weekend. Now that I get a lot of stats from my Apple Watch, including lap times per mile and maps of my routes, I regularly review this data as it is useful. The Apple Health and fitness apps are both handy for recording my progress. I’m also looking to get some new weight scales that monitor additional metrics like BMI when connected to compatible scales. I’ve started looking at some Bluetooth scales on the market and just need to make a decision and order. My current scales are older and are proving difficult to connect to my phone.
During the month of May, more friends and family acknowledged my weight loss, and this is, of course, motivational. In June, I have a hospital appointment with a consultant who helps me track my recovery from an illness five years ago. As they always weigh me, the doctors should hopefully no longer be concerned about my weight as they will see a positive change. I will check if they can also provide advice on how I can maintain the weight loss to prevent piling on the pounds again. Lifestyle-wise, two main reasons contributed to my weight gain, which were lockdown and working from home. Therefore, as I still work from home, regular daily walks will need to continue to stop being sedentary.
Finally, I successfully achieved my daily calorie counting throughout the entire month. While I was in Wales for a long weekend, I indulged in a few treats, including a chippy tea and a Chinese meal, but I balanced them off with extended walks. I know that all this extra effort will be worth it when I reach my 5 stone weight loss goal. Here’s to a successful June!

A pic comparing how I looked in December 2024 compared to mid May 2025!
