In the past, I have avoided going to “Five Guys”, partly due to the price. More recently, I have kept seeing reviews that indicated that the burgers were really good and worth a try.
As we were attending a concert at the NEC, it seemed like an opportunity to try Five Guys food as a branch is in Resorts World. After a short queue, we were at the till. Our order was taken swiftly, and we explained we hadn’t ordered from them before. The assistant was very helpful.
When ordering, we remembered that according to reviews, portions of fries were generous. We opted for the bottomless drinks and found seating, filling up our drinks while waiting for the food. The drink machine was really good with many options and flavours on offer. We topped up the drinks several times each.
The kitchen area was open, and we could see our food being prepared. It all looked very slick and well organised. Our food order was being called out within about 10 minutes.
Our order filled a massive bag for the three of us. Like I say, we knew the fries had a reputation for being generous and overflowed the container with fries everywhere in the bag. A very nice touch.
Our three burgers were tightly and well wrapped in foil and numbered. The number corresponding to your receipt to identify each order. We had two bacon cheeseburgers and a little ham burger for my daughter.
Taste test-wise, the fries were amazing. We just tipped all our fries back into the bag and tore the sides down a little for ease of access. Hot and delicious skin-on fries.
Our burgers, when revealed, were massive. Such a size that you puzzle for a moment on how to tackle them. My burger was the bacon cheeseburger, and I left it partially wrapped in foil for ease of lifting and eating. It was tasty and of good quality. It was quite heavy as well as packed with extras. An important note is that you can customise as you wish, and I went for the all-in option.
The experience did make me think of the old saying – “you get what you pay for.” Yes, the bill came to over £50 and an average of £17 each, but I can honestly say it was very good.
Friendly staff, decent amount of food, and good quality. I can now understand why many rave about the product. My only criticism is that the tables and chairs in this branch are a little basic, but it is a popular and busy branch.
Would I go back? definitely! Also, Mc Donald’s is not that cheap anymore and is stingy on fries and does not offer refillable drinks (officially). The McDonald’s burgers are also not that generous in size. If you actually purchased the extra drinks and extra fries to match Five Guys quantities , no doubt the price would then be about the same but lacking the quality.
We will be back.
