You Tube Premium Review

As a family, we watch a fair amount of You Tube. We subscribe to quite a few apps and always enjoy You Tube content. In recent years we have noticed an increase in ads. A ridiculous amount of interruptions.

The You Tube premium subscription option removes ads along with other benefits that include the music streaming app and games.

The main appeal for my family is ad free viewing. Then an unexpected benefit was the games. Games that load within the app quite quickly. Often some known and quite addictive games that are very enjoyable.

My wife and I hate ads and already pay to have them removed on ITVX and Channel 4+. We watch those streaming channels a lot and the cost to remove ads is reasonable. The issue with You Tube is that they are selling you a package of benefits so just to gain ad free, it is quite expensive at around £12 a month.

It’s just a shame that they do not offer an ad free subscription only. The trouble is if they did, no one would probably subscribe to the music steaming app. We are Apple Music subscribers and while the You Tube app has some more rarer finds to stream, it is not where near as good as Apple Music.

I am tempted to keep paying for ad free viewing but have not decided yet. Do I watch enough You Tube to justify the expense? I’m currently deciding while using a month’s free trial.

YouTube Premium membership offers a number of benefits, including:

  • Ad-free viewing: Watch videos on YouTube without ads
  • Offline viewing: Download videos and playlists to watch on your mobile device without an internet connection
  • Background play: Continue watching videos on your mobile device while using other apps or when your screen is off
  • YouTube Music Premium: Access to YouTube Music Premium at no extra cost, which includes ad-free music and podcasts on Google Home or Chromecast Audio
  • YouTube Originals: Access to exclusive or unreleased content on YouTube
  • Queuing: Control what to watch next by queuing videos on your phone or tablet
  • Google Meet sessions: Host Google Meet sessions where all attendees can watch YouTube videos together
  • Family accounts: Get personalised accounts for up to five additional household members

What do you think of You Tube premium? Do you subscribe and do you think it is good value for money?
