Magicians often carve out a niche area in performance style and venue type that they perform at. Many successful magicians play regularly on cruise ships which often have fantastic facilities and large theatres. Though this can make it hard to see them on land when they get so many cruise bookings.

Manuel Martinez is one such act that tours the world performing on cruise ships for all the famous cruise operators. Entertaining guests in a variety of manners either in theatres, workshops or close up.

Manuel had previously performed on Penn & Teller many years ago. As a comedy magician, his show is full of jokes and hilarious stories. I was able to catch his show on P&O Arvia with my wife. He was performing in a fantastic and very large theatre on board the ship. The night that we saw Manuel, he was performing the show to three sold out audiences.

While a family show, Manuel pushes the content and humour as far as you can go. Many laugh out loud moments followed by some lines that you cannot believe he has just said. It included a funny routine about cruising.

Certainly the show was very popular with a good audience reaction. A 45 min set that was very interactive interspersed with some magic and lots of comedy.

The magic performed suited the theatre location and a video camera was also used to relay footage on stage.

Big thanks to Manuel for talking to me during his workshop. And if you do get the chance to see him live, do go as you won’t be disappointed. Even if you are not into magic, this is a funny show that will make you laugh.

Incidentally, the magic workshop he runs on board is entertaining and is aimed at budding magicians.

Thank you Manuel Martinez.
