Demontfort Hall in Leicester is known for putting on a popular annual pantomime. This year they are presenting “Jack and the Beanstalk”.

Scott Mills features in his first panto along with Leicester’s own X Factor winner Sam Bailey. Also staring Mark Read from A1 and comedian Jarred Christmas. The panto dame was played by the excellent Jack Ballard.

I had heard good things about the Leicester panto but I was not expecting anything this enjoyable. I would totally recommend going if you can get tickets before it ends on the 7th of January.

Traditionally, many pantos are fighting for our attention at this time of year. They range from local productions to premium. This production of course being at the high premium end.

The show with interval lasts around 2 hours 15 minutes. It is very funny with lots of humour for family and adults. Both acts were excellent but the second part was particularly good, ramping up the enjoyment until the end. The second part featuring the 12 days of Christmas and A1’s Mark taking a turn singing “Take on me”, it was very enjoyable.

Sam Bailey was excellent as the fairy and I enjoyed watching her. The pantomime dame played by Jack Ballard deserves a special mention as well. He was absolutely fabulous in the role and very entertaining.

Sets, sound and design of the show was all excellent. A high quality show with an excellent cast.

By the end of the show, the performers all had all the audience up on their feet and they leave you feeling good and on a high. Like all pantomimes, the show was very interactive and fun. The cast obviously enjoying themselves as well.

If you live in Leicester and surrounding areas and you can get tickets, I would totally recommend.

Next year’s production was announced as “Snow White”.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
