For as many as 6 years at Christmas, my daughter and I have put together a gingerbread house with mixed results. Normally something is missing parts wise or breaks. Last year, we even tried a chocolate variation by Cadburys.

Some of the gingerbread houses have been quite expensive but this years offering was from Aldi and it was really impressive at just £5.99. The kit appears to contain good gingerbread which smelt amazing and also had fantastic icing sugar modelled characters and sweets. The gingerbread pieces already been made up for you.

The instructions were pretty good and just required an egg white mixed with icing sugar to form the icing to glue all the parts together. The only tricky part was cutting down some of the gingerbread into smaller parts and you hope it will not break.

The icing worked really well and glued the gingerbread together well. Some of the previous kits have been more difficult with icing taking an age to set.

My daughter and I built the house in around 20 to 25 minutes. A good kit and possibly the cheapest and the best that we have bought. Also, it is quite large.

If you can pick up one of the kits from Aldi, your kids will enjoy making it.

My quick takes…

  • Easter Eggs

“ As Easter approaches, I’m hoping to stay strong and avoid chocolate. My goal is to eat just one egg. Can I manage that? “

“The second season is nearly done, and somehow I’ve only just discovered this show. I’m about to start the series one finale and honestly, what a great watch it’s been. It feels like 24 meets Lost, with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. I’m hoping it just keeps getting better.“
