“Walk away”
When confronted with hostility or unnecessary aggression from someone else, especially when you haven’t done anything wrong, it’s natural to want to defend yourself and question others.
Recently, I was minding my own business when I was unexpectedly placed in a dangerous situation that could have seriously injured me. The nature of the incident prompted me to question the other persons indiscretion. They didn’t take me questioning their actions well and their response included swearing and an unreasonable view and expectation of events. It was clear a discussion wasn’t possible so I had no choice but to walk away despite only questioning why.
The other party’s reaction genuinely shook me. Had I communicated more with them, I suspect a confrontation that would have ended badly. I walked away to de-escalate the situation and keep safe, which I think was the right thing to do. If ever facing a similar situation with an unreasonable person, I would hopefully do the same again as they were definitely unwilling to take responsibility for their actions.
Be careful when out and about; you can be minding your own business and suddenly find yourself in a situation through no fault of your own.
