⭐️⭐️⭐✨ 3.5

Not a film I would usually choose to see, but with it being a bank holiday and one my wife wanted to watch, I decided to give it a chance. On such a hot day, the cinema air conditioning alone felt like a good enough reason to go.

It is very much aimed at a younger audience and teenagers on a date night, but it is amusing and genuinely funny in places, even if the story itself is fairly paint-by-numbers with a predictable outcome.

The soundtrack is surprisingly decent, while Angourie Rice and Spike Fearn have strong chemistry and are both very likeable leads. It probably goes without saying that my wife enjoyed it more than I did. But the film did leave us both with a feel good factor, after the expected and eventual conclusion.

The story is set in Manchester and was largely filmed around the city and university, which gives it an authentic feel. Overall, it is a decent enough film that I am sure plenty of people who the film is actually aimed will enjoy.

Finding Emily is a Manchester-set romantic comedy following Owen, a young musician and sound engineer who meets a girl named Emily during a university night out. After she accidentally gives him the wrong number, he becomes obsessed with finding her again.

His search leads him to another student, also called Emily, and together they begin a chaotic hunt across campus and social media to track down the “real” Emily. As the search unfolds, the pair develop an unexpected bond of their own, while the film explores modern dating, online culture and student life with a mix of humour and heartfelt moments.
