⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐ 5

I hadn’t seen the original film and because of all the hype surrounding this follow-up, I recently watched it for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent characters, strong performances and a genuinely engaging story. But could a sequel really be as good?

It absolutely could.

In fact, this sequel is so popular that there is already talk of a third film. So what did I think?

Amazing. A confident and highly entertaining follow-up that arguably improves on the original. All four main stars return, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci all delivering fantastic performances. Their portrayals feel believable, developed and very funny. Add in several guest cameos from recognisable figures within the fashion industry, along with stunning locations and cinematography, and the film feels every bit as stylish as you would hope.

I certainly wasn’t alone in enjoying it either. The audience around me laughed throughout, and the two-hour running time flew by. While the film brings several storylines to satisfying conclusions, it also leaves opportunities to continue the film series should they wish to make a third instalment.

This is a film franchise I never expected to enjoy as much as I do. On paper, a story centred around the fashion industry may sound aimed primarily at women, but the appeal is far broader than that. The strength of the writing and the characters leaves you genuinely invested in the characters.

At the centre of the story are Andy’s relationships with all the returning cast. We see a softer and more reflective side to Miranda Priestly, who has clearly always recognised Andy’s potential, even if she rarely showed it. Andy’s relationship with Nigel also develops in a satisfying and heartfelt way that long-time fans will appreciate. Some new characters are also introduced.

The opening section of the film does an excellent job of establishing where the characters are some twenty years later, before naturally bringing them back together through Andy’s story.

A feel-good film that leaves you wanting more, while pulling off the rare feat of arguably surpassing the original. Excellent direction, cinematography and storytelling throughout. It also feels wonderfully authentic, with sequences that appear to have been filmed during real fashion events to capture the energy and glamour of the industry.

“That’s all”.

Set nearly twenty years after the original film, The Devil Wears Prada 2 follows Andy Sachs as she is pulled back into the world of high fashion journalism when Runway magazine faces collapse in the digital age. Miranda Priestly is struggling to keep the legendary publication relevant, while Emily Charlton has become a major power player in luxury fashion. As old rivalries and loyalties resurface, the trio must navigate corporate pressure, changing media trends and the cost of ambition in a very different world from the one they left behind.
