We booked tickets to see Ellie quite some time ago when they went on sale last year. We managed to get decent seats, just 5 rows back from the stage front left, in a nearly sold out theatre that holds about 500 people. We didn’t know much about Ellie, but we had seen her perform on TV as a comedian and, of course, watched her present “The Great Pottery Showdown” on Channel 4. She’s an all-rounder who also acts and presents alongside her stand-up.

The Warwick Arts Centre, nestled within the Warwick University campus, is a decent venue. We arrived in plenty of time to grab a drink and take a look around the site. There are plenty of food options nearby so if we go to this venue again, we will have to make a food booking.

The show began with Ellie, who started for about 10 minutes and interacted with the crowd. She worked through some venue specific material about the University and Coventry, giving us a strong and funny start. She then introduced her support act, Robin Morgan.

While we hadn’t heard of Robin, he was incredibly funny. Like Ellie, he had a planned routine, but it was tailored to the audience. Robin also worked with opportunities that arose, encouraging plenty of audience participation. It’s always a bonus to have a strong support act, and Robin was excellent. He went down well with the crowd and is touring next year. If a date arises near us, we’ll definitely go.

Wawick Arts Centre – Theatre

Ellie returned to the stage after an interval and read through some of the audience Instagram messages she had encouraged at the start of the show. She interacted with the audience a bit more before launching into her tour show material.

The set was very enjoyable. Ellie covered a range of topics, including raising her kids, relationships, men, strictly, pressure washers, and much more. She was on stage for a decent amount of time, and her humour is situational-focused, making it easy to follow. I was able to relax and enjoy the material. Ellie is a likeable and engaging performer who is quick-witted with audience comebacks and delivers well-received and relatable material.

Both artists went down well with the audience, making it a great night out. If you can get tickets for the show, I would recommend it as there are a few more tour dates left. Ellie mentioned that she hadn’t performed stand-up before this tour for about five years, as she is now successful as a presenter and actress, among other things. During lockdown, she wrote a book, which is now on my reading list. I’ll definitely be there for her next tour!
