Regular readers will know that I am getting rid of Sky TV and have given my notice.

I’m really happy with my app setup on my Apple TV 4K box. Particularly as this new setup should save me lots of money.

This is what I have organised as a replacement with annual costs.

Amazon Prime £131.88 ad free

ITVX £39.99 annually for ad free

Channel 4+ £39.99 annually for ad free

Paramount Pay £70 annually

BBC iPlayer Free

Channel 5 free

Netflix £4.99 for ad version (equiv to £60 annually). Ad free as don’t watch much on Netflix these days.

While I have other apps, most of the rest are free. Some of the apps being annual subscriptions helps reduce monthly out goings. All are a cheaper option than when paying for Sky which I was paying around £85 a month for as well as still paying for some of the subscriptions listed previously (ITVX and Channel 4).

When using Sky, I was paying about £1231 a year including extra apps. Dropping Sky and using just the apps that I want will now cost £341 a year. Therefore the equivalent of £28 a month compared to £103 a month. A good £70 saving each month and £890 for the year.

The Sky Q system is quite old now and the Apple TV is so much more powerful. I really feel now that I have a better setup for a lesser cost. I already owned the Apple Tv box and it fits in more with how I now watch all TV by streaming. I just need to find my old Freesat box now and then will have that as a backup in the instance that the broadband goes down.

Occasionally, as and when I require, I will subscribe to Apple TV + and Now TV for a month at a time. I can then just occasionally catch up when programs are available to watch.

Apple TV + £8.99

Now TV £6.99

Do you have Sky and are thinking of getting rid? Or do you already use an Apple 4K Tv box to stream all your TV? Do let us know in the comments.
