Earlier this year I moved my mobile phone contract to EE. An unexpected benefit was being able to use an app called “Airtime.”

Like most people, I use my phone to buy things with my bank cards. For certain retailers I now get money back when making purchases. The percentage gained does vary but ranges from 1 to about 10%

You can also link multiple cards and now automatically when spending at certain retailers we gain rewards. As you gain the reward/funds, you can then transfer the money to pay off your mobile bill. So far I have gained money back for spending in Greggs’, Aldi and L’Occitane. The L’Occitane spend of £60 was an unexpected bonus as I got £6.60 back.

In total I have now already earnt £10.36 in 2 months. I expect that amount to increase as we now have all our cards linked.

The only thing you have to remember is that not all rewards are instantly available and in some cases you will need to wait up to 90 days. However, as time goes on, it likely won’t matter too much as regular use will then have money becoming available at regular intervals. It will certainly help with getting money off my phone bill.

You cannot use Airtime with all mobile companies, particularly if you are with a virtual network like Tesco Mobile or Sky Mobile. It does work however with all the main operators such as EE, 3, Vodafone and O2.

In addition, if you want to earn more money back they have lots of options to buy vouchers and you get 4% back.

When you do apply credit/rewards to pay off your bill, I have not tried that yet and I will update this article when I do so. when redeeming I understand that you need to allow 24 hours before the money is taken off your next bill.

Have you used “Airtime” and how did you get on with it? Please comment below. I will update this post in a few months with further experiences using the app.
