I have picked up the reading pace during the Summer months of 24. These are my latest reads for June:

For the 1st blog post covering May – read (here).

Incidentally, as I read on a Kindle, I would recommend building a library by checking the daily Kindle books deals on Amazon. Many of my reads I bought for a £1.

“Gotta Get Theroux This” – Louis Theroux

Having watched many of Louis’ documentaries over the years, I had had this book of my list for a while waiting to be read. A good read documenting his career history along with more personal information. Challenges writing and filming his documentaries are also explored along with details about the famous Jimmy Saville documentary.

“Hear Me Out” – Sarah Harding

Like most I was aware of Sarah’s passing of breast cancer. After seeing Girls Aloud live in 2024, I wanted to read her story. A down to earth and easy read. Though of course difficult to read in parts, when bravely describing her struggle with cancer.

The book details her upbringing, schools and challenges finding her way career wise. I also discovered that Sarah attended my secondary school (Salesians in Chertsey) which was referenced.

Despite her success in Girls Aloud, the book documents her struggle to bond initially with the group.

Further chapters write about struggles, friendships and of course illness.

An enjoyable read written as if Sarah is talking to you. An honest account and I was able to personally relate to her journey experiencing chemo. A remarkable lady.

“Behind the Shoulder Pads” – Joan Collins

Joan has written many books and I have always found watching her TV interviews entertaining. Like most, I remember her in Dynasty.

Finally getting to read one of her books, this is more of a series of short tales. A really enjoyable read by this renowned worldwide actress and author.

An eye opening book that was entertaining and well written. Joan is quite the character and has lived an extraordinary life. Reading about her adventures, parties and friendships.

Joan is our only proper British AAA Hollywood actress with an accomplished career and tales spanning from the golden age of cinema through to current times.

An entertaining book.

“Friends, Lovers and the big Terrible Thing” – Matthew Perry

Another author on this list who has since unfortunately passed. The book starts with events when Matthew was hospitalised, with friends and family being told Matthew only stood a 2% chance of getting through the night after a medical emergency.

A humorously written book of the actor who knew he could be funny but at the same time was considerably lonely and feeling abandoned from childhood.

My quick takes…

(ALL)

  • Easter Eggs

“ As Easter approaches, I’m hoping to stay strong and avoid chocolate. My goal is to eat just one egg. Can I manage that? “

  • “Paradise” – Disney Plus/Hulu

“The second season is nearly done, and somehow I’ve only just discovered this show. I’m about to start the series one finale and honestly, what a great watch it’s been. It feels like 24 meets Lost, with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. I’m hoping it just keeps getting better.“
