Sports and boxing films are always popular and after watching “Christy” last year, I was open to seeing another. This time starring Bond actor Pierce Brosnan and Amir El-Masry in a biopic about boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, and his relationship with British boxing champion Prince Naseem.

The story centres on Brendan, who is guided many boxers to world titles. Pierce Brosnan delivers an excellent performance as a responsible and balanced man and trainer. His portrayal of his relationship with Prince Naseem is particularly noteworthy. Amir El-Masry also delivers an amazing performance as Naseem.

The cast delivered excellent performances, with a compelling storyline, impressive filmography and a well-paced narrative. Set in Sheffield, the film follows Nadeem’s relationship from the age of seven in the early 80’s with the time period captured well.
This production was executive produced by acting legend Sylvester Stallone.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It captured the drama while also being humorous and enjoyable to watch. It was another excellent film for a quiet January, something I usually wouldn’t book but thoroughly enjoyed.
Critic reviews are disappointing and seem to rate the film as average. However, I’d still recommend it as you can’t always trust critics. Sadly in real life, Brendan died back in 2018, but I understand his family are proud of the film as they should be in his memory.
