This film leans more towards a comedic reimagining of the classic 90s horror movie than a remake. Promotional footage and the star power of Paul Rudd and Jack Black suggested it would be funny and worth watching. I was in the mood for a light-hearted take on the original.

This feel-good film follows four childhood friends now in adulthood as they attempt to remake the “Anaconda” film. A standalone story that focuses on the friends attempting to recreate the original film only to find themselves in a real-life version of Anaconda.

This good-humoured film is an amusing romp and I’d highly recommend it. Jack Black and Paul Rudd lead the way with Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn joining them. The film certainly hints at a sequel and there’s even a post-credit sequence. A couple of original cast members also make cameo appearances.

The film is generally nicely paced with a strong start. A slight slowdown in the storytelling midway thankfully picks up quickly.

Jack Black is the film’s main draw and the scene where he escapes the anaconda is hilarious. It’s worth watching just for that alone and makes for a great film post Christmas.
