“Wasteman” Film Review/Opinion

Gritty. Realistic. Disturbing.

Director Cal McMau crafts a realism rarely achieved in film. The storytelling and depiction are almost documentary-style, like a fly on the wall.

This independent film follows Taylor (David Jonsson), a man facing prison parole. However, his path to freedom is complicated by a new cellmate, Dee (Tom Blyth), who introduces unexpected challenges that threaten his release.

The film tackles subjects ranging from prisoner relations, drugs, gangs violence and death. It captures a corrupt and toxic environment so realistically you feel deeply immersed. A captivating story with unexpected twists and turns.

Both Jonsson and Blyth are incredible in their roles, perfectly capturing the characters.

This limited release is definitely worth checking out if you can get to see it. You won’t be disappointed.
