I was a bit late to the party on this one, and I watched 28 Years Later on Amazon this week. It was an amazing film that made me want to see this sequel.

Following Spike (Alfie Williams) and his mother (Jodie Comer) on their quest to find Dr Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) in the first film, this sequel picks up after Spike’s mother’s death and his encounter with cult leader Jimmy (Jack O’Connell) and his followers – all simply referred to as Jimmy.
As part two of the current story, I was curious about the next developments. I suspected Jimmy would be drawn into the cult and his Dad would likely search for him. The movie posters suggested Dr Kelson might also be infected. No doubt many will have held their own predictions. However, I will avoid answering if I got any predictions right.

Settling in to watch the film, it follows fairly immediately after where we left off after the first film. This time produced by Danny Boyle, written by Alex Garland and directed this time by Nia DaCosta.
Great story telling following the separate stories of Spike and Dr Kelson before they meet again for the films dramatic conclusion with cult leader Jimmy.
A mainly 80’s soundtrack supporting Kelson’s story developments with Samson (the Alpha variant). Meanwhile Spike having to reluctantly fit in with Jimmy’s cult to help secure his own survival.
The film concludes the story in an exciting manner, setting the stage for a follow-up. While some elements are wrapped up, other parts remain open-ended or ambiguous.
I have to highly recommend this film. It boasts excellent performances and brilliant cinematography, creating a thoroughly entertaining and brilliant experience.
Now to rewatch/watch the older original films…
