My wife has connections with this fishing port where she previously lived and worked some 20 years ago. We have visited on holiday in the past, but our last visit must have nearly been ten years ago.

An ideal place to stay and visit in Devon for those wishing to holiday. Lots of accommodation possibilities, and we stayed in a private chalet in Brixham Holiday Park. A small, traditional park offering accommodation, a shop, a bar/restaurant, and a pool. Clean and very well run. Our chalet, while small, is ideal for couples and small families. It is the size you would expect, though, for a holiday property.

The swimming pool was a lovely size and nice and warm. This was a good bonus for staying at the park, and we went swimming daily. Location-wise, we were within a convenient 15-minute walk from the harbour and visited daily to look around and eat. While not a huge amount to do as such, for a relaxing holiday when you just want some downtime, there are plenty of options to eat with bars, restaurants, and lots of fish and chips. Brixham can act as an ideal base to stay and then allow you to venture further afield to other nearby towns. We visited Paignton, Torbay, etc., which are very close, and even Plymouth.

On our first night in Brixham, we ate at the “Rockfish” fish and chips which has a restaurant and take-out. While we used the take-out, you can still eat in and look out to the harbour. My family had traditional fish and chips, while I had pork sausage and chips. Lovely, friendly service, clean and good food.

Chip meals were popular with us during the week, and sometimes we would buy sandwiches with a large portion of chips to share. We also ate at The Harvester (read here) which was nearby (Torquay) and also at The Cow Shed restaurant in Brixham which was amazing for burgers, steak and ribs. Read the review here.
For those who follow this blog, you will know that I go walking daily. Thankfully, I found a decent footpath to walk, which was a couple of miles long. I also followed the coastal path one day, but it was quite exhausting. Lots of amazing scenery to take in during long walks.

As we intended the holiday to be very relaxed and chilled, we didn’t visit many places. On travel days at the beginning and end of the holiday, we also visited some National Trust locations (Killerton and Tyntesfield).
Overall, Brixham made a lovely base for our holiday. We were lucky to have excellent weather, and it was very enjoyable. Since our last visit, we felt that Brixham had very much improved. Certainly, there is much more choice of eateries, and the quality of some gift shops has also improved. See you next time, Brixham.
